JSC Electrometallurgical Works Dneprospetsstal named after A.N. Kuzmin has signed a contract with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies GmbH for delivery of a new steel melting furnace (EAF-60). The value of the contract is about 10 million Euro. Commissioning is planning at the first quarter of 2012.
A new furnace is appropriated for production of special steel grades by electric arc melting method. It is planned to be placed at the Steel Melting Shop 3. Its capacity is 60 tons, liquid steel output is up to 540 000 tons a year, capacity of furnace transformer is 60 MVA. The new equipment will admit to deplete the average ta-to-tap time to one hour instead of four. It will lead to cost reduction owing to electric energy, electrodes and consumable product saving.
The new furnace will supersede three furnaces in the Steel Melting Shop 3. According to Vitaly Kornievsky, the acting Chairman of the Board of the JSC Electrometallurgical Works Dneprospetsstal named after A.N. Kuzmin, the new up-to-date gas cleaning plant will be installed along with the new furnace. ‘It will allow us to provide technological gas cleanliness complying with the latest requirements of the environmental law. Implementation of this project will result in significant ecological effect both for the industrial area and Zaporozhye city in whole’, he said.
As explained by Irina Obert, the project manager of Siemens VAI Metals Technologies, the integrated resource-saving water treatment plant would also contribute to environment pollution abatement.
The signing of the contract with Siemens VAI Metals Technologies is the first step of the new electric arc furnace project within the retrofitting of steel melting production. Assimilation of the new equipment and technology will allow product quality enhancing and strengthening of the company’s position at the special steel market.
